What does every C.A.Gs grey come home with?

Whichever bird you choose, the standard is the same. Every grey leaves us captive-bred, documented, and health-checked — no chasing paperwork after the carrier opens.

The full documentation and starter set that comes home with every C.A.Gs African Grey, including DNA, CITES and hatch certificates
Everything that travels with your bird — DNA sex certificate, CITES Appendix I paperwork, hatch certificate and vet health record. See what comes with Amie →

The documentation set every bird carries

  • DNA sex certificate (lab-confirmed)
  • AAV avian-vet health certificate
  • Hatch certificate + closed leg band
  • CITES Appendix I captive-bred documentation
  • Weaning & feeding guidance

How can you verify our paperwork yourself?

Our USDA AWA license number is public and searchable, the DNA certificate names the testing lab, and your own avian vet can confirm the AAV health certificate at the first wellness visit. See our CITES documentation page for what each form covers.

Keep these documents for your bird's whole life

Store the originals safely — you will want the CITES and hatch paperwork for future vet records, interstate travel, and to prove captive-bred origin decades from now.

Captive-bred African Greys are legal to own and transfer domestically with proper documentation under U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service CITES guidance ↗.

Our pre-placement health standard

We are a USDA Animal Welfare Act licensed facility, and every bird clears the same pre-placement checks before it is listed.

What health checks does every grey clear?

  • PBFD & Polyomavirus PCR screening
  • Pre-placement avian-vet exam (AAV standard)
  • Weight & condition assessment
  • Weaning verification before travel
A note on testing claims

We only tell you what we have documented. If your vet recommends additional diagnostics beyond the AAV health certificate, that is a conversation we support. Every bird is also covered by our health guarantee.

Source: AAV pre-travel exam standard

Each health certificate follows Association of Avian Veterinarians ↗ exam standards and is issued before the bird travels.

How much does an African Grey cost at C.A.Gs?

Our available greys run from $1,500 to $3,500. The figure reflects the real cost of hand-rearing a documented bird — not what the market will bear. Our full African Grey price breakdown shows where every dollar goes.

Congo African Grey pricing

Single Congos run $1,700–$2,500 (Bery $1,700, Roys $2,300, Amie $2,500). The Jins & Jeni companion pair is $3,500 and is placed together only.

Timneh African Grey pricing

Elad is $1,600 and Evie is $1,500 — both reduced from a $2,200 Timneh starting price, and both DNA-sexed siblings from our Levi × Rily pairing.

Is the price negotiable?

No. Our prices reflect the true cost of raising a documented, hand-reared bird properly. We would rather be transparent than discount a bird and cut something you would not see until later.

What a $200 deposit secures

A $200 deposit removes your chosen bird from the listing and holds it exclusively for you. It comes off the total — it is not an extra fee — and the balance is due before travel.

Breeder note: why we don't discount documented birds

A "cheap" grey is almost always a bird missing its DNA, CITES, or vet paperwork — or a listing with no real bird behind it. The gap is not markup; it is documentation, health, and a breeder you can still reach in year two.

Beyond single companions

Want a breeding pair or fertile African Grey eggs?

Some buyers want more than one companion bird. Alongside our hand-raised greys, we occasionally place a proven, DNA-sexed breeding pair, and fertile African Grey eggs for experienced hobbyists with their own incubator. Everything is captive-bred in the USA at our USDA AWA licensed aviary and transferred with full CITES Appendix I documentation — never wild-sourced.

How do you reserve and bring a grey home?

The five-step reservation process

  1. 1

    Reach out

Tell us which bird you are interested in through the form below. We reply within 24 hours with fresh dated photos and answer anything before a dollar moves.

  2. 2

    Place a $200 deposit

This holds your bird and pauses its listing. No one else can claim it once your deposit is confirmed.

  3. 3

    Settle the balance

The remaining balance is due before travel. We schedule around what works for your household.

  4. 4

    Choose shipping

Airport pickup ($185) or home delivery ($350) — or an in-cabin avian flight nanny, quoted per route.

  5. 5

    Arrive documented

Your grey lands with the full documentation set in hand, and we stay reachable for any post-arrival questions.

Is the deposit refundable?

Yes — the $200 deposit is refundable any time before your bird ships. If circumstances change, reach out and we work it out directly.

Where do C.A.Gs deliver African Greys?

Nationwide shipping — two tiers

$185

Airport Pickup

IATA LAR live-animal cargo to your nearest major airport. Delta, United, or American.

$350

Home Delivery

Door-to-door. Your grey arrives at your address, calm and ready to settle in.

We place greys in all 50 states by IATA airport cargo or door-to-door delivery from Midland, TX. See Amie's shipping detail →

Airport pickup vs home delivery

Both travel in an IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR) ↗ approved carrier with an avian-vet health certificate dated within 10 days of travel.

What is an avian flight nanny?

A flight nanny is a professional courier who carries your grey in-cabin rather than as cargo — never in the hold, never alone. Available from Midland, TX to most major airports, quoted per route.

Which states do we ship to?

All 50. We have placed greys in New York, Ohio, Illinois and across the country. Don't see your state? Just ask.

Breeder note: timing travel around weaning

We never ship a bird before it is independently weaned — African Greys typically wean between 12 and 16 weeks. A weaned grey travels far more stably than one rushed off formula.

Why buy from C.A.Gs instead of a marketplace?

The accountability a marketplace can't offer

The benefit we offer is not a different product — it is accountability. We are the same breeders, Mark & Teri Benjamin, at the same address in Midland, TX, with the same USDA license number — findable before you pay and reachable after the bird lands. An anonymous listing cannot give you a verifiable license, real CITES paperwork, a named DNA lab, or someone who answers the phone in year two. Knowing how to avoid African Grey scams mostly comes down to that one habit: insist on documentation and a breeder you can verify.

Available greys — frequently asked questions

Common questions about reserving an available African Grey

Which African Greys do you have available right now?

Right now we have six hand-raised greys available: Roys, Amie, Bery and the Jins & Jeni companion pair (all Congo African Greys), plus Elad and Evie (Timneh African Greys). Each has its own page with full photos, video where available, and documentation. Availability changes as birds are reserved, so the roster above is always current.

How much do your African Greys cost?

Our available greys run from $1,500 to $3,500. Timnehs (Elad $1,600, Evie $1,500) sit at the lower end; single Congos run $1,700–$2,500; and the Jins & Jeni companion pair is $3,500 because they are placed together. Every price includes hand-rearing, the full documentation set, and a USDA AWA licensed aviary standing behind the bird.

Are all of your African Greys DNA-sexed and documented?

Yes. Every C.A.Gs grey is captive-bred in the USA and goes home with a DNA sex certificate, an AAV avian-vet health certificate, a hatch certificate with closed leg band, and CITES Appendix I captive-bred documentation. We never ask a buyer to take our word for it.

Can you ship an African Grey to my state?

Yes — we ship to all 50 states. Airport Pickup is $185 (IATA LAR live-animal cargo on Delta, United or American to your nearest hub); Home Delivery is $350 door-to-door. An in-cabin avian flight nanny is available too, quoted per route.

Can I reserve a grey that isn't listed yet?

Yes. If none of the available birds is quite right, join our waitlist and we will reach out first when our next hand-raised Congo or Timneh clutch is ready to place — before it is listed publicly.

What does a deposit do, and is it refundable?

A $200 deposit reserves your chosen bird and pauses its listing for you; it comes off the total, it is not an extra fee. It is refundable any time before the bird ships. The balance is due before travel.

How our waitlist works

Tell us the variant, sex, and temperament you are hoping for. When a matching chick weans, you hear from us first — there is no charge to be on the list and no obligation to commit.

Breeder note: next clutch timing

Our pairs are seasonal, so availability ebbs and flows through the year. The fastest way to know what is coming is the waitlist above — we reach out before anything is listed publicly.
